ARGOS Challenge presentation
Meeting the oil & gas industry challenges
Exploration & production activities take more and more place in extreme conditions and under considerable constraints: arctic weather, arid climate, remote sites, offshore and onshore alike. Robotics has the potential to optimize operations and to meet the oil & gas industry new challenges.
Setting up bold objectives
By launching the ARGOS challenge, Total is pursuing 3 main objectives:
- To bring together robotics players to understand operating issues encountered in oil and gas exploration and production activities and to encourage them to work together to meet these specific needs and boost research.
- To raise awareness among operators on Total industrial sites of robotics and more generally new technologies. The challenge will allow them to anticipate the arrival of robotics in their activity sectors and to play an active role in this change.
- To promote technological innovation, which the Total group holds dear, not just with its industrial partners but also with new audiences such as the academic world.
Looking at tomorrow technologies
Beyond the ARGOS Challenge, the use of such robots could spread to industrial complexes around the world and produce benefits for the general public (civil security, fire brigade, etc.).
